First private LNG cargo ship to arrive at Gasport terminal

ISLAMABAD: Chief Executive Officer of Universal Gas Distribution Company, Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha has said that Pakistan history’s first private LNG cargo will arrive at the Gasport Terminal.This is the second LNG terminal and UGDC will utilise its additional private capacity. This terminal has less line losses and better efficiency, which will help keep gas prices low. This terminal is free from any conflict and GoP has played its due role for this status.Mr Paracha in a statement issued here on Monday said that the day of arrival of first LNG cargo ship will be milestone in Pakistan’s energy and gas sector with regard to private participation. “We are planning to play an important part for development of economy in future through continuous supply of gas with lower tariff,” he said.He said his company will provide 40 mmcfd RLNG to CNG stations in Pakistan and it will gain momentum in the months to come. However Sui Northern is at present is supplying 60 mmcfd RLNG to CNG sector. He clarified saying that those CNG outlets which have inked deal with UGDC will end getting RNLG from Sui Northern.He said his company is also in the process of finalising the agreement with textile industry for provision of RLNG, but in the first phase his company will provide RLNG to CNG sector. He said that the CNG stations will do away with supply from the Sui Northern and will get RLNG from UGDC because of lower prices. So far 653 CNG stations have inked agreement with UGDC for RLNG supply and more CNG outlets are in the line for deal.

Lahore Literary Festival in London renews community’s bonds with Pakistan

LONDON: A diverse crowd comprising the Pakistani community, other South Asians, British and Europeans attended the fourth edition of the Lahore Literary Festival (LLF) here at the venerable British Library to hear conversations and panel discussions on literature and the broader humanities.The festival was inaugurated by Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK Nafees Zakaria. He spoke on the “quiet civil disobedience” that currently exists as a result of the siege and has continued to exist from 1947. He shed light on the history of past sieges in the Indian Occupied Kashmir but said the ongoing siege is the worst as the Indian forces have picked up children as young as 9 years old. Similarly, the whereabouts of the young people who were picked up remain unknown. He appreciated the voices being raised at the international level against Indian oppression in Kashmir.Waheed highlighted at the LLF that 1 in 6 Kashmiris has experienced abuse. 49% of the Kashmiri population suffers from PTSD and half the women in Kashmir suffer from depression, he said.Actors Adnan Malik, Ainy Jaffri and Armeena Khan took part in a popular session on Pakistani drama and its outreach to the diaspora. “Go West: Pakistan’s Global Screen,” which was moderated by Fifi Haroon, also featured BB entertainment reporter Haroon Rashid. The actors shared how Pakistani cinema is changing and new and young actors are making a huge impact on the cultural direction of the country.The well-attended, one-day event encompassed a wide range of topics including literature, art, history, culture and politics. The festival culminated with a Qawwali performance by The Saami Brothers Qawwal in the evening, who were flown in from Karachi especially for the LLF.

Accountability court declares Salman Shahbaz proclaimed offender

LAHORE: An accountability court Monday declared Salman Shahbaz son of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif as proclaimed offender, an accused of money-laundering assets beyond means and Ramzan Sugar Mills drain case. The court has also seized all the assets of Salman.Previously, the court had started proceedings to declare Salman Shahbaz a proclaimed offender after the NAB officials had informed the court that he is not appearing before the Bureau in different investigations.It is pertinent to mention that on June 17, Mushtaq alias Cheeni and his son Yasir Mushtaq alleged front men of Shahbaz family in their confessional statements before the court had confessed that they facilitated Salman Shahbaz son of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif for converting his Rs6oo million black money into white money through fake loan agreements and engineered telegraphic transfers (TTs). The NAB is also investigating all members of Shahbaz family for alleged money-laundering and having assets beyond means. Moreover, the NAB had summoned Hassan and Hussain but they didn’t appear as both are absconders in Avenfield case and are living in London. Salman is also an absconder in Ramzan Sugar Mills case and is living with his cousins in London.

Prominent journalist and Deputy Chief Editor of Al-Gamhouri Sayed El-Hany stressed that the Kashmir struggle, recognized by several resolutions of the UN Security Council, was legitimate and not terrorism and that it was India that had ignored the UNSC resolutions on Kashmiris’ right to self-determination and also the OIC resolutions calling for sending a fact-finding mission to the IOK.Strategic analyst Maj. Gen. Gamal Mazloum talked about the scenarios of future events in the light of fresh Indian escalation and warned against military confrontation between the two nuclear countries.Director Farabi Center for Studies Professor Medhat Hammad expressed belief that resistance was the option left for the people of Kashmir, as India continued to ignore the resolutions of international legitimacy and forcibly suppress the Kashmiri people.Professor Ibrahim Muhammad Ibrahim of Al-Azhar University decried India’s insistence to deprive the people of Kashmir of their right to freedom and self-determination as guaranteed by the Charter of the United Nations to all peoples. He stressed the importance of the media role in publicizing the just cause of Kashmiris in light of the Indian media's control of several media channels.South Asia expert Samir Hussain said India's recent escalation in the IOK was part of the economic struggle among world powers over promising economic development axes in light of the Pakistan-China partnership in the economic corridor which was an important part of the Silk Road revival project.He stressed that the jihad of Kashmiri people complied with the relevant UN resolutions, which affirmed their inalienable right to self-determination and which India continued to dodge. Highlighting the historical background of the struggle, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Egypt Mushtaq Ali Shah said the unconstitutional and illegal changes in the status of the IOK by the Indian government would herald the decisive phase of struggle of Kashmiri people; however, its full impact would be visible only after lifting of curfew clamped down by India for more than 80 days. He said neither would the people capitulate to repression nor would Pakistan abandon the cause of its Kashmiri brethren.

Two Britain councils adopt Kashmir prosper motion

LONDON: The county council of Buckinghamshire and Wycombe District councils adopted a motion showing serious concerns amongst thousands of residents of Kashmiri heritage across Buckinghamshire, about widely reported recent human rights abuses and their recent escalation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.In the adopted motion, it was said that council believes that Buckinghamshire with its diverse citizenry and strong economy, it has a key role to play in maintaining good links within our diverse community. The council, therefore, acknowledges the United Nations Security Councils Resolutions 39 which offered to assist in the peaceful resolution of Kashmir conflict by setting up a commission of three members one to be chosen by India, one to be chosen by Pakistan and third to be chosen by the other two members of the commission.In the motion, serious concerns showed by thousands of residences of Kashmiri heritage adopted by both the councils. The motion was presented to Tori MP Steve Baker at the residence of ex-chairman of District Wycombe where leader of council councilor Mr Martin, Leader of Wycombe District Council Katrina Wood, Mayor of Wycombe Muzammil Hussain and other dignitaries were present at the occasion.MP Steve Baker, after receiving the motion, told this correspondent that there are serious concerns of the residence of his constituency. He said that the motion showed that India is violating the human rights in Kashmir. He said that it’s not a political but human rights issue.He can pass this motion to foreign secretary and to the other quarters concerned of the government to help them resolve the Kashmir issue. MP said that he knows that India is committing the violations at Line of Control (Loc) which is horrifying case of violation. It’s really terrible and shocking, people under curfew facing shortage of medicine, food and basic necessities.He said that thousands of residences are having relatives and families in Kashmir and their concerns about human rights violation are very true, so they as government need to understand the seriousness of the issue.Responding to another question, Steve Baker said that people do have right to protest in this country, but if in the public interest, it is necessary to restrict the protest so that it may not become a conflict. “But who has restricted this protest of Kashmiris people in London, I need to find out,” he said.He said that the successive government were in a position to resolve the conflict between India and Pakistan but didn’t. “If it is true that India has been using cluster bombs against civilian’s population in Kashmir that’s alone is a significant human right violation,” he said.MP also said that the independence observers should be allowed to see what’s going on in Kashmir. “We need to get evidence what’s going on and people don’t need to be frustrated, have patience and soon they will get justice,” MP said.He said that let’s know what’s happening, where, to who and by whom but it’s true that thousands of people living here have serious concerns about their families and relatives. He said that it’s not the highest priority of the people in UK, so they have to witness and demonstrate the scale of human rights abuses, so the whole would should take it seriously what’s going on in Kashmir.He assured the people that he will raise voice against the human rights violation by India in Kashmir. Leader of the Council Mr Martin said while talking to this correspondent that India is clearly violating the human rights in Kashmir and they all are standing with the residents whose relatives and families are in Kashmir where they are living under curfew.The host of ceremony and motivator of this motion, Councilor Mehboob Hussain Bhatti, while addressing, said that he feels proud that Tori party’s councils have adopted the motion. He demanded India should restore article 370 immediately and allow self-determination to Kashmiris people. ‘KP govt not to create hurdles for Azadi marchers’

PESHAWAR: Minister for Information Shaukat Yousafzai has said the provincial government would not create any hurdle in the way of Azadi March as the federal government has permitted the opposition parties to hold their protest after an agreement with them. Speaking at a news conference here on Monday, he said the provincial government would endorse the agreement. However, he clarified that the provincial government would not allow the marchers to carry sticks and slingshots.Shaukat Yousafzai said the government would not allow such miscreants to pass through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said it was the responsibility of the provincial government to maintain law and order.He appealed to all to cooperate with the government to maintain security of people. He said a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mahmood Khan discussed the hike in the price of wheat flour. He said reports about artificial flour crisis were being spread in the media.He said the Punjab government has established checkposts to check of smuggling of wheat flour to Afghanistan. He said Section 144 has been imposed in Peshawar and nobody could smuggle flour to Afghanistan.Shaukat Yousafzai said action would be taken against those who took the law into their hands or violated the agreement with the government. He said it was the democratic right of the opposition to stage a protest demonstration. He said the opposition has guaranteed to remain peaceful. Shaukat Ali Yousafzai said that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) head Maulana Fazlur Rehman has pushed the Kashmir issue in background. He said the government has allowed the opposition to hold the protest but nobody would be allowed to disturb the law and order. The government would never allow sticks wielding force, he added.“There is no food crisis in the province,” he said, adding the government was providing three thousand tonnes of wheat to flour mills instead of two thousand tonnes daily. The information minister said that a cell has been set up in the Home Department to monitor the processions and will provide a report to the ministerial committee on a daily basis. In response to a question, Qalandar Khan Lodhi said that there was no food crisis in the province.

KP CM orders ban on flour export to Afghanistan

PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Monday ordered ban on export of wheat and flour to Afghanistan. He issued the directives while chairing a meeting regarding establishment of Hattar Special Economic Zone, said a handout.The chief minister said that adequate quantity of wheat and flour was available in the province and the federal government had also agreed to provide 3,00,000 metric tonnes of wheat to the province. The chief minister also ordered strict action against hoarders, stating that all those involved in creating artificial crisis would be strictly proceeded against as per the law.The chief minister directed authorities to adopt a workable development model for the Hattar extension project covering an area of 1,000 acres and directed TEVTA for introduction of courses to meet the needs of industrial units so that maximum number of people from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may be provided with livelihood opportunities. Minister for Finance Taimur Salim Jhagra, Minister for C&W Akbar Ayub Khan, Advisor to CM on Industries Abdul Karim, CM's principal secretary Shahab Ali Shah, head of strategic Support Unit Sahibzada Saeed, administrative secretaries, chief executive Pesco, general manager SNGPL, chief executive EZDMC and other officials attended the meeting. The meeting was briefed in detail regarding the work progress on Hattar Special Economic Zone spread over an area of 424 acres and Hattar Economic Zone extension project.The chief minister was informed that the revision of designs for establishment of infrastructure is currently under process which will be completed by the 31stof the ongoing month. Furthermore, Rs484 million has been estimated for establishment of grid station which is currently under process and will be completed by February 2020.The meeting was informed that PESCO has already prepared PC-1 for establishment of grid stations which would be presented to Ministry of Planning, Development & Reforms for final approval. The PC-1 is based on short term, midterm and long term plans.

JUI-F leader injured in Bajaur firing

KHAR: A local leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on him in Badaan area in War Mamond tehsil in Bajaur district on Monday, official sources said. The sources said that Mufti Sultan Mohammad was going home after offering Fajr prayer at a mosque when armed men opened fire on him.He sustained injuries in the attack and was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar from where he was flown in a helicopter to a hospital in Peshawar. District Police Officer Pir Shahab Ali Shah said Mufti Sultan Mohammad received three bullets. He said a search operation had been launched to hunt down the attackers.Mufti Sultan Mohammad is considered a key JUI-F leader in Bajaur. He is the head of JUI-F War Mamond tehsil and had unsuccessfully contested the last general election from PK-102 on JUI-F ticket. Meanwhile, JUI-F Bajaur chapter held a protest demonstration at Khar Bazaar to condemn the bid on the life of Mufti Sultan.

Man shot dead in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Unidentified armed men shot dead a 22-year old man in the limits of the Cantonment Police Station on Monday, official sources said.The sources said that the assailants opened fire on Mohammad Ismail, son of Mohammad Zarif, and killed him on the spot. The accused fled the scene. The slain Mohammad Ismail, an electrician by profession, was taken to a local hospital where his body was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem.Mohammad Shakil, brother of the slain person, told the police that his brother had gone to the city in connection with some work when he was killed. The police registered a case and started an investigation.Meanwhile, a man belonging to Gilgit-Baltistan was kidnapped by four armed men near Kotli Imam Hussain madrassa in the limits of Cantonment Police Station. The gunmen bundled the man identified as Mohammad Safdar Hussain into their car and escaped from the scene. It was learnt that the kidnapped person had a dispute with the kidnappers.
