Consensus prevails: No two opinions among political forces on Indian incursion

ISLAMABAD: Like before, all the parliamentary and political forces came out with one voice against Indian jets’ intrusion and urged the government to be decisive and determined against the attack on Pakistan’s territory.Setting aside their gross differences with the government over a host of issues, the opposition joined forces with it and made it clear that they stand shoulder to shoulder with it against India. This kind of solidarity and unity has always been witnessed among all political and parliamentary forces when it comes to India. There are no two opinions on dealing with New Delhi on all fronts. On 29th September 2016, India announced that it conducted “surgical strikes against militant launch pads” across the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Kashmir and inflicted "significant casualties". Indian media reported the casualty figures variously from 35 to 50. Partial footage of the surgical strikes was released to the Indian media on June 27, 2018. But it all was all an abject concoction and falsehood as it turned out at the very outset and subsequently. Even the Indian media exposed it as a fraud. From day one Pakistan denied that any surgical strike was carried out in its territory. However, there is a clear difference this time. Now, India officially declared that its twelve jets intruded into Pakistan’s area. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the aggression occurred and the Indian fighters had to flee, releasing their payload. The India claim to have decimated any structure stood belied as no such thing happened. The rare harmony and unison was witnessed in the National Assembly, where the Indian intrusion came under debate. Senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah said that Prime Minister Imran Khan should have come to the National Assembly to "give a message to the world that we are united". "A meeting of all political leaders, including those not in Parliament, should be called immediately, he proposed. “Narendra Modi only wants to go war because of elections. We are behind the armed forces of Pakistan. India is not a weak country and it can take more similar actions. If needed, the opposition parties will be at the borders with the armed forces. Pakistan has the ability to dictate India.”Former foreign affairs and defence minister Khawaja M Asif delivered an important speech and called for all parties to put a united front in the face of India's LoC violation. "Our country, our sovereignty, our integrity are being threatened," he said and asked the government to immediately convene a session of Parliament. "It is the need of the hour we show solidarity with the Pakistan Army. It is not the time for political point-scoring; all political parties should suspend their differences for some time. The message should be sent that all lawmakers are one in the matter of Kashmir. Despite our differences over the economy or running of the government, this is one area that all of Pakistan is united on,” he said, and the government side took no time in accepting Khawaja Asif’s proposal, acknowledging the sensitivity of the matter. He was particularly angered over the invitation to Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj as a “guest of honour” at an inaugural session of the foreign ministers’ conclave of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to be held in Abu Dhabi. The former minister stressed that Pakistan should boycott this OIC meeting. "It is an insult that our enemy is being invited as a guest of honour at a time when Kashmiris are facing bloodshed. It has not happened in the last 45 years.”Former Speaker Ayaz Sadiq called on the government to raise this issue with the OIC, saying that the group had no power to invite India without seeking the consent of member states. Seasoned parliamentarian and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Syed Fakhr Imam agreed with the opposition’s recommendations. He said that unity should be the order of the day when Pakistan has been attacked.Pakistan’s response to the Indian aggression was measured, calculated and not kneejerk that did not whip up war hysteria, which India wanted on the eve of its general elections. However, some feel that at least one of the intruding Indian jets should have been shot down by the Pakistan Air Force fighters. This would have sent a strong message to India that Pakistan has the sufficient capability to effectively annihilate any aggression.
