Court upholds PTI MPA’s disqualification

MULTAN: The Lahore High Court Multan Bench upheld the disqualification of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf MPA Salman Naeem and disposed of his writ petition after declaring the petition not maintainable here on Tuesday, said the court sources. LHC Multan Bench Judge Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi heard the petition. The court directed the petitioner to file his application with the relevant forum. Petitioner Sheikh Salman Naeem defeated Shah Mehmood Qureshi as an independent candidate in the last general elections. The ECP disqualified him for being underage. As per Nadra record, he is less than 25 years of age and no candidate less than 25 years of age is qualified to retain the seat. The ECP had disqualified PTI MPA Sheikh Salman Naeem, elected from the PP-217 Multan-VII in October 2018, and ordered re-election in the constituency. The ECP had also withdrawn his victory notification. Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Akmal Hashmi filed two separate petitions with the Multan ECP. Naeem candidate later moved the election tribunal and challenged the ECP’s disqualification verdict. He got a stay order from the LHC Multan bench against the disqualification and re-election.
