KP Agri varsity employees want full-time VC appointed

PESHAWAR: All the employees unions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Agriculture University, Peshawar, Tuesday asked the provincial government to ensure early appointment of full-time vice-chancellor of the university.The demand was made at a joint meeting of the unions wherein an action committee was formed. The body would expedite the struggle for the vice-chancellor appointment and resolution of the problems faced by the university's teaching and non-teaching staff.Dr Sartaj Alam was named chairman of the action committee and Malik Kifayat Khalil as general secretary. The participants of the meeting noted that the university had been working without a regular vice-chancellor for the last 15 months due to which severe administrative and academic problems had surfaced. They said the provincial government, on the recommendations of the academic and search committee for appointment of vice-chancellors, have already completed the process for vice-chancellors' appointment of the three universities. But the final decision could not be taken so far.Dr Sartaj Alam said the academic and administrative activities have been seriously affected that due to the adhocism in the university. They stressed the government to ensure early appointment of the vice-chancellor.The employees demanded the government to probe the appointments made in the university during the last 15 months. They asked the government to help resolve the pension and other problems faced by the present and former employees of the university.
