Ban on houbara bustard hunting proposed

LAHORE: A commission appointed by court on hunting of houbara bustard on Monday submitted a report before the Lahore High Court and requested it that the hunting of the endangered species should be banned till the next survey.Commission Chairman Dr Pervez Hassan stated that the survey of 2018 had suggested the houbara bustard species was under danger. It should be banned from being hunted till the next survey, he added. Justice Shakil ur Rehman Khan observed that if the federal government might file objections to the report.The court adjourned hearing until April 6 and observed that it would make an order on the next date of hearing on ban on hunting. Sheraz Zaka advocate and Kalim Illyas appeared on behalf of the petitioners and argued that houbara bustard was a vulnerable species. Zaka said the government should be restrained from allowing hunting permits before the next survey in November.
