Eight wildlife parks set up in KP: official

PESHAWAR: Environmentalists at a function have urged people from all segments of society to play their effective role in the protection and conservation of wild species and forests.The function was jointly organized by Wildlife Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) Project to mark the World Wildlife Day.The theme for World Wildlife Day 2019 is ‘Life below Water: for People and Planet’. Wildlife species constitute a major portion of biodiversity and ‘Conservation of biodiversity is vital for the survival of mankind on earth’, said Safdar Ali Shah, chief conservator Wildlife KP.He said this message about the importance of wildlife conservation needs to be disseminated among all and sundry.The KP chief conservator also referred to Islamic injunctions pertaining to protection and conservation of all kind of living creatures. Survival of the Wildlife and biodiversity is imperative for the survival of mankind and if biodiversity is not saved, it will endanger the life of people on earth, he added.Safdar Ali Shah highlighted to efforts being made by Wildlife Department for protection of wild species in the province. He said eight wildlife parks have been established in the province, covering an area of 10,60000 hectares, constituting 14 percent of total area of the province. He continued, nine pheasantry aviaries and 15 breeding enclosures have been set up in the province.
