GUJRANWALA: The Anti-Corruption Establishment on Sunday booked 10 accused, including five GDA officers, for allowing the owners of illegal housing schemes to sale plots without obtaining the NOC.ACE Regional Director Sheikh Farid told that dozens of residents of Al-Qasim Town gave applications to the ACE in which they alleged that the owner of a housing society sold them plots by saying that his society was approved by the GDA and other government departments.However, he added, after passing a long time, the owner did not provide them electricity or gas while the plots allocated for parks and graveyards had also been sold illegally. During the inquiry, it was proved that the GDA officers were also involved in this scandal, he added. The officers allowed the owners of the societies to carry on their business without taking any NOC, which caused a huge financial loss to the government exchequer, he disclosed.He told that after getting approval from the competent authority, the ACE team not only arrested the owner of society Malik Haroon but also got registered cases against 10 accused, including former GDA DG Maqbool Ahmed, ex-town planner Tariq Rauf, Town Planning Director Umer Farooq and Building inspector Rana Zia. The ACE officer informed that accused Malik Haroon had deposited Rs 2.5 million as recovery into the government’s treasury.
