MANSEHRA: An inmate, arrested for depriving a Malaysian tourist family of cash and valuables, has committed suicide in Mansehra district jail.“The inmate committed suicide inside a barrack’s washroom by hanging himself with ventilator,” Abdul Bari, the assistant superintendent of jail, told reporters on Saturday. The body was handed over to the family on completion of medico-legal formalities at King Abdullah Teaching Hospital.Abdul Malik, 40, was arrested along with members of an inter-provincial gang of robbers last month.“Punjab Police have obtained custody of his gang members and he was scary of all this and apparently committed suicide to avoid his custody,” Abdul Bari said.District Police Officer Zaibullah Khan had told reporters that the gang had been involved in heists in various parts of the country. He said the gang was also involved in the Jaba Top robbery wherein they deprived passengers of vehicles and also robbed a Malaysian tourist family of local and foreign currency, gold and valuables on gunpoint.Muhammad Miskeen, a family member of the deceased, sought an inquiry into the death of Abdul Malik and said that the death may not be a suicide case.
