SUKKUR: A Jirga headed by PTI MPA from Ghotki Shahryar Khan Shar fined Rs150,000 to an alleged rapist on Thursday. The Jirgas are outlawed by the Supreme Court but they routinely take place in the interior of Sindh.The Jirga collectively fined the three alleged rapists Shaman Ali Shar, Ropa Shar, Jan Muhammad Shar to pay fine to the rape victim. The alleged rapists approached the victim’s family who have promised to withdraw their complaint with the Police Station Khenjo in Ghotki.According to the complaint, the victim was kidnapped from village Peerani and was later subjected to rape.The police had not entertained her complaint and she approached the court of District and Sessions Judge Ghotki who directed the police to file an FIR against the rape. The police defied the court orders and protected the alleged influential culprits. They also did not make any efforts to arrest the culprits.Meanwhile, the civil society of Sukkur demanded an FIR against the Jirga conductor, PTI MPA from Ghotki Shahryar Khan Shar, for convening the Jirga clearly outlawed by the superior judiciary. They said the Jirgas violated the writ of law by interfering with the judicial process. They routinely take place across the province and the government and the district management tends to ignore them.
