Mercury down in capital as rain falls

Islamabad: Islamabad woke up to downpour on Monday morning, which caused the mercury to fall and thus, making the weather chillier.According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, 17 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Saidpur, 15 in Saidpur, 14 in Zero Point, 11 in Bokra and nine in New Airport areas of Islamabad and 14 millimeters in Shamsabad and 12 in Chaklala areas of Rawalpindi. The rainfall began early on Monday and continued all through the day intermittently. In low-lying parts, streets were inundated with water troubling residents. The rain threw traffic out of gear, especially Rawalpindi. There were tailbacks at many places with the traffic cops struggling to regulate the movement of vehicles. The minimum temperature recorded in Islamabad was 10 degree Celsius. The PMD says the rainfall on Tuesday is unlikely as the rainy spell has subsided. It, however, forecasts more rains in the days ahead.
