Opp protests in PA over Nawaz’s health issue

LAHORE: Opposition in Punjab Assembly lodged a protest against the government’s alleged reluctance to provide medical treatment facility to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and demanded his immediate release.The PML-N also boycotted Punjab Assembly proceedings and its MPAs gathered on stairs outside the PA building to register their protest against the PTI government, alleging it for victimising their leader.The PA session began with Deputy Speaker Mir Dost Mohammed Mazari in chair with a delay of more than two hours. The House took up questions related to the departments of Bait-ul-Maal and Social Welfare during which Minister concerned Ajmal Cheema responded to the queries of legislators.During the PA session, PML-N legislator and former Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mohammed Iqbal Khan on a point of order stated that Nawaz Sharif was a heart patient but the government was not taking the matter seriously. He said sometimes the former PM was taken to Services or sometimes to the Gynae ward of Jinnah, adding Nawaz Sharif should be treated with the same doctor who knew his medical history.Rana Iqbal Khan stated that Nawaz Sharif had served thrice as the PM of the country and made Pakistan a nuclear power but the treatment being meted to him was highly regretful.At the time while Rana Iqbal Khan was on point of order, sloganeering started by the Opposition members, demanding the release of their party supreme leader Nawaz Sharif. Later, the Opposition boycotted the session in protest.Meanwhile, amid the boycott of the Opposition, the treasury passed Mir Chakar Khan Rind University Bill 2019 whereas Law Minister Raja Basharat also slammed the Opposition for misleading the nation. He said Nawaz Sharif wanted everything in his favour but things would only be dealt in accordance with law. The PA session was adjourned till Thursday (today).
