Punjab minister offers talks to teachers

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Schools Dr Murad Raas while inviting schoolteachers to talks said that neither he nor the department will be pressurised by any protests. The minister invited the schoolteachers to talks as the United Teachers Council (UTC) has given a protest call for March 20 against the Punjab government. In a social media post, Schools Minister Dr Murad Raas said if the School Education Department did not have funds to do any one of its projects, no false commitments or promises would be made. The minister, however, said every issue could be resolved through negotiations. Meanwhile, the UTC, in a press release, condemned the statement of the minister and termed the same ‘threatening one.’ The UTC leaders observed the demand for regularisation of services of 100,000 schoolteachers was not a pressure. They vowed to continue with the planned protest outside Punjab Civil Secretariat on March 20 for their demands which also included promotions and postings of regular heads in over 2,000 public schools across the province.
