Rain, snowfall in KP: Three children die, 7 injured in Miranshah roof collapse

PESHAWAR: Three children were killed and seven persons injured in a roof collapse incident in North Waziristan as parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received rain and snowfall on the second consecutive day on Saturday.The continued rain and snowfall intensified the cold, blocking the link roads in mountainous districts.The rain and snowfall also prompted the Provincial Disaster Management Authority to caution the administration of the districts to be on alert.MIRANSHAH: Three children died and seven others were injured in a roof collapse in Kanirogha of Dattakhel area in North Waziristan.Sources said the roof of a house in Manzarkhel collapsed due to heavy snowfall. The dead and the injured belonged to the same family.The injured were taken to a hospital. Razmak was cut off from the rest of the country due to the snowfall that also disrupted the electricity supply to the area. Some places in Miranshah received snowfall after 12 years.WANA: Wana in South Waziristan also received rain and snowfall.Several walls also collapsed due to the rainfall. The rainwater accumulated on roads, inconveniencing the people.MINGORA: The Swat district received intermittent rain and snowfall on the mountains, bringing the mercury down.Kalam, Malam Jabba, Mataltan and other hilly areas in the district received snowfall. Chitral, Lower Dir, Upper Dir and mountainous areas in Hazara also received heavy rain and snowfall.In the provincial capital, the intermittent rain continued throughout the day, turning the dilapidated roads into either canals or mini-ponds. “Gone are the days when we used to enjoy rain in Peshawar. Now, we witness flood-like situation on the roads when it rains in the provincial capital,” said Umar Khan.KARAK: Reports pouring in from different parts of the district said that the boundary walls and mud houses collapsed in Chanikhel, Kandokhel, Sarobi, Odhakehl and Azarkhel area of Karak tehsil. However, no loss of life was reported from any part of the district.
