Uplift of education, health sectors top priority in merged districts: corps commander

WANA: Corps Commander Peshawar Lt-Gen Mazhar Shaheen Mehmood on Thursday said that army was focusing on education and health sectors in tribal districts.Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Education City in Molay Khan Serai here, the corps commander said that work was underway to improve condition of schools and hospitals in South Waziristan.He said that provision of basic necessities to tribespeople at their doorsteps was the priority after the restoration of peace in the area. He linked development in the area with the improved health and education facilities.The official said that army would extend every possible support to the organisation involved in promotion of education in tribal region. He said that huge losses had been endured in the war in the region that had been fought for the security of the country.The security forces and tribespeople had rendered tremendous sacrifices in the war on terror, he said, adding, the security forces acknowledged the sacrifices of civilians in the war on terror.The corps commander said that the era of lawlessness had ended and the development phase had been initiated to bring tribal areas on a par with the other parts of the country. The official said that security forces would continue to support tribespeople as they had supported their forces during war.
