Woman official, Levies man martyred in Lakki Marwat attack

LAKKI MARWAT: A female official of the Independent Monitoring Unit (IMU) and a Levies man were martyred while four persons were wounded in an apparent terrorist attack in the Bhittani tribal sub-division of Lakki Marwat district on Wednesday.Sources said that data collectors and monitoring assistants, including Sofia Bibi and Attaur Rehman, were on monitoring visit to the schools when armed miscreants from the nearby mountains opened fire on them in the remote Gazgoba area. The sudden attack left Sofia Bibi and a Levies soldier Akhtar Ali dead on the spot, the sources said. They added that Attaur Rehman, a driver of the IMU Hameedullah, schoolteacher Allah Noor and Khassadar force member Wali Muhammad sustained injuries in the attack.DC Jehangir Azam Wazir along with Assistant Commissioner Eid Nawaz Sherani, tribal subdivision assistant commissioner Noman Ali Shah and IMU district monitoring officer Ishaq Wazir rushed to the site of attack and arranged ambulances to shift the bodies and injured to the hospital. All the injured officials were shifted to the hospital in Bannu where two of them are said to be in critical condition. The bodies were handed over to their relatives after post- mortem in the District Headquarters Hospital at Tajazai. The law-enforcement agencies launched search operation in the area to apprehend the attackers but there were no reports of any arrests yet.The government recently extended the services of IMU to schools located in the merged tribal districts and subdivisions.
