Crackdown on fake powdered milk ordered

Bureau reportPESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority in a special market survey identified counterfeit powdered milk in Peepal Mandi of the capital city.Director General Riaz Khan Mahsud expressed concern over the supply of fake powdered milk and ordered crackdown against it.Appreciated the performance of the authority's surveillance team for identifying counterfeit product in the market, he said the suppliers should be brought to justice.Riaz Mahsud directed the technical section of the authority to take up the issue with trade unions and genuine product suppliers to warn their dealers about this fake product.Director Operations Khalid Khan Khattak deputed a team comprising of Assistant Director Aneela Mahboob and Food Safety Officers Ahmad Ali Shah and Wasif Shah to collect information about the suppliers from wholesale dealers.Director Technical Dr Syed Abdul Sattar Shah warned the public particularly the mothers to stop feeding their infants with the powdered milk.Talking about counterfeit product found in market, Assistant Director Aneela Mahboob said that an ordinary man cannot distinguish between the original and fake product.She said that more than 15000 packs of the product were seized in the crackdown.
