KP teachers concerned at withdrawal of Health Allowance

PESHAWAR: Faculty of basic sciences across the medical and dental colleges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has expressed concern over reports about the withdrawal of the Health Professional Allowances to the basic science teachers.According to a press release, a meeting of the faculty of basic sciences of public sector medical and dental colleges was held here on Thursday. The participants discussed the situation arising out of reported withdrawal of the Health Professional Allowance for basic science teachers. It was pointed out that keeping in view the acute shortage and deficiency in the basic science faculty, the provincial government had announced the allowance in 2016. It was meant to encourage teachers of basic sciences and prevent them from joining the private sector medical colleges. It was lamented that due to some misunderstanding, the government initially decided to withdraw the health professional allowance for the basic science teachers but on realizing its mistake, the Health Department moved a summary to make amends and rescind the decision. The faculty praised the secretary, Health Department for taking immediate steps to correct the wrong. The faculty showed reservations and noted that the decision to withdraw the allowance was illogical and would create unrest amongst the basic medical sciences faculty, which was already underprivileged. It demanded that instead of withdrawing the allowance the provincial government should undertake further steps to encourage the faculty to continue serving the public sector medical and dental colleges. The participants of the meeting hoped that the provincial government would undo its unjust decision and withdraw it to address the concerns of the basic sciences teachers of the medical and dental colleges.
