Islamabad: Promising a relief from the rising temperatures, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a four-day rainy spell coupled with dust and thunderstorms in the country, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, from Wednesday.According to a PMD official, a shallow westerly wave is affecting upper and central parts of the country and is likely to intensify on Wednesday. "Under the influence of the coming weather system, rains accompanied by dust and thunderstorms are likely to fall at scattered places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Balochistan, Upper Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir from Wednesday to Saturday," he said.The weatherman said isolated heavy rainfall was also expected in Makran, Kalat, Zhob and DG Khan divisions on Wednesday and Thursday. He said there was a high likelihood of cloudy weather with few chances of dust and thunderstorms with light rain along Sindh-Makran coast including Karachi on Thursday and Friday."Due to this weather system, the day temperatures are likely to remain (4-6)°C below normal in different parts of the country during the period," he said. Met officials said that continental air is prevailing in most parts of the country. However, scattered dust-thunderstorm/rain is expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Quetta, Zhob, Kalat, Makran Divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.On Tuesday, dust-thunderstorm/rain occurred at scattered places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Malakand, Hazara Divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir, while at isolated places in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Makran Divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan. Weather remained hot and dry elsewhere in the country.Rainfall was recorded in several cities, including Murree, DG Khan, Kasur, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalnagar, Hafizabad, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Sialkot, Narowal, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Joharabad, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Jhelum, Balakot, Malam Jabba, Kakul, Pattan, Dir, Saidu Sharif, Garhi Dupatta, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Astore, Bagrote, Bunji, Chillas and Lasbella.Tuesday's maximum temperature was recorded at Jacobabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu and Larkana where mercury reached 45°C while in Lahore, it was 38°C and minimum was 21°C.
