SUKKUR: A conference “Salam Kissan Pakistan” was organised by Sarsabz Pakistan of Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited to highlight the problems of small growers and to appreciate their services to strengthen the domestic economy.Regional Sales Manager Fatima Group, Waheed Ali Talpur, Development Head, Abdul Samad Abro and others said the conference was the first of its kind, which aimed to meet the challenges of food security in the country and to highlight the role of small farmers and their services. They thoroughly appreciated the small farmers, adding that they were doing an impressive role in strengthening the country through self reliance in food sector.Director Marketing and Sales Fatima Group, Khurram Javed said eyeing on the rapidly growing population, food security challenges could not be avoided without empowering the small farmers. He said through the “Salam Kissan Pakistan” forum, we would like to encourage and appreciate their role in our daily lives as well as the country’s economy. Provincial Minister Syed Owais Qadir Shah said despite being an agricultural country, Pakistan had not yet organised any such programme to strengthen farmers.Mayor Sukkur Arsalan Islamuddin Sheikh said the share of small farmers in the economy was about 18.5 per cent, while the ratio was 38.5 per cent in the labour force. He also appreciated Sarsabz Fertilizer for highlighting the problems of small farmers and safeguarding their rights because such measures could bring prosperity to small farmers. The event was attended by the local farmers and people from all walks of life as well as representatives of the government, and others.
