KP traders ask govt to extend Statutory Regulation Order

PESHAWAR: The trader community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has asked the government to extend the already enforced Statutory Regulation Order (SRO) by the Ministry of Trade on imported items by July 31.Speaking at a news conference here on Monday, Markazi Anjuman-e-Tajiran President Sharafat Ali Mubarak said the government has compounded the problems of traders by imposing duty through the SRO.He said presently 2400 containers were parked at Karachi seaport. He observed that the government was bent upon imposing Halal certificates through new regulatory order.Sharafat Ali said the traders were getting items from two foreign companies – one is in Turkey while the other in Dubai. He posed a question as to how they would get Halal certificate from them.He said the government has not spared any institution in the country including the trader community. He said the traders were the backbone of the country as they were paying billions of rupees tax to the government annually. He said the parked containers at Karachi seaport had affected the business of the traders.Sharafat Ali said that they had held meeting with Adviser to PM for Commerce, Textile and Industry Production Abdur Razzaq Daud but he ,too, could not give any satisfactory response. He asked the prime minister to extend SRO by July 31 and hand over the containers to traders or else they would not only launch a protest movement but also lock the offices of ministry of trade and commerce.
