PESHAWAR: Calling for holding the local government elections at the earliest, the representatives of different civil society organisations at a seminar here on Tuesday said that the local government system helped resolve the problems of the people.The seminar was organised by the Omar Asghar Khan Foundation (OAKF) at Peshawar Press Club (PPC). The people belonging to various walks of life attended it. On the occasion, the participants adopted a 10-point Citizen Charter of Demand regarding local government and social accountability.Khalid Khan from Shangla and Asad Ali from Nowshera said that they had taken hundreds of social accountability actions with support from the Omar Asghar Khan Foundation. They added that they were also able to reach councillors at village council and even district level, prompting actions that helped improve schools, Basic Health Units (BHUs), roads and public services.The speakers said local governments provide important opportunities for citizen engagement in governance and to hold governments to account for the delivery of quality services.
