PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information Shaukat Yousafzai said on Tuesday that the government was taking solid steps for the welfare of coalmine workers.A handout said he expressed these views during a meeting with Engr Mairaj, the younger brother of Shaheed Naik Muhammad. The minister said that 38 days had passed but the body of Naik Mohammed could not be recovered from a coal mine in Darra Adamkhel. Naik Mohammed was trapped inside the mine while saving the life of two workers 38 days back.He said that Naik Mohammad was an asset to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and his services for the party would always be remembered. "He was a good man and always sympathised with the poor. Naik sacrificed his life to save other workers," the minister said. Shaukat Yousafzai said though the family of Naik Mohammad was going through a trauma, the government would spare no effort to recover his body.He said that Chief Minister Mahmood Khan wanted solid work to be done for the welfare of coalmine workers. About 70 per cent of coalmine workers hail from Shangla, Shaukat Yousafzai said, adding that in the past, no development work was done in Shangla, no job opportunities created due to which a large number of young people were compelled to work in coal mines. He said that like the whole province, the road network was being laid in Shangla. He said that roads have been approved at three tourist destinations to develop Shangla. Shaukat Yousafzai said effective legislation was under consideration to protect the coal mine workers in which the rights of the workers would be fully protected.
